Distant Moon came from a place of instinct. Layered textures of electric green, deep teal, soft violet, and bold yellow pulse through the canvas like sound waves. It’s not about the moon itself...it’s about the feeling of it... distant, magnetic, just out of reach but always pulling you toward something more.

The Process Behind the Work

Each artwork begins as an original painting by JD Shultz, created on canvas or plexiglass using layered acrylic techniques.

Plexiglass pieces are painted on the reverse side, building the image back-to-front to create depth, clarity, and a luminous finish.

​

Mixed media works are developed from the original painting and enhanced through layered materials and finishes — preserving the integrity of the original while adding dimension and presence.
