In In Plain Sight, JD Shultz invites you into a layered world of contrast...where chaos and stillness collide. Bursts of chartreuse yellow and electric blue pulse across the canvas, while shadowy forms emerge through splattered voids and dynamic strokes. No reproductions. No duplicates. Available as an original or Mixed Media.
 
Mixed media pieces begin with a high-resolution print of the original artwork on plexiglas. Each piece is then hand-embellished and painted, adding texture, depth, and subtle variation so no two are exactly the same. Because of this hands-on process, mixed media works feel very close to an original painting.

The Process Behind the Work

Each artwork begins as an original painting by JD Shultz, created on canvas or plexiglass using layered acrylic techniques.

Plexiglass pieces are painted on the reverse side, building the image back-to-front to create depth, clarity, and a luminous finish.

​

Mixed media works are developed from the original painting and enhanced through layered materials and finishes — preserving the integrity of the original while adding dimension and presence.
