When I painted this, I let the brush follow the rhythm of something older than thought. Every line is raw... unapologetic. You can feel the energy move...like drums in the distance or a storm gathering just before it breaks.
 
The layered acrylic on plexiglas creates incredible dimension. Color rises through shadow. Form cuts through chaos. It’s primal, yet intentional...a visual pulse you can feel in your bones.
 
Framed in crisp white to contrast the heat of the piece, this one is ready to command attention in any space.

The Process Behind the Work

Each artwork begins as an original painting by JD Shultz, created on canvas or plexiglass using layered acrylic techniques.

Plexiglass pieces are painted on the reverse side, building the image back-to-front to create depth, clarity, and a luminous finish.

​

Mixed media works are developed from the original painting and enhanced through layered materials and finishes — preserving the integrity of the original while adding dimension and presence.
