This piece came together through layered, intuitive movement... soft neutrals built against darker negative space, allowing the forms to feel suspended rather than fixed. The brushwork is deliberate but loose, creating a sense of motion that feels calm, reflective, and slightly unresolved… in the best way.
 
Painted by hand as a one-of-a-kind original, this work carries the texture, depth, and presence that can only exist in an original painting. No reproductions. No duplicates.

The Process Behind the Work

Each artwork begins as an original painting by JD Shultz, created on canvas or plexiglass using layered acrylic techniques.

Plexiglass pieces are painted on the reverse side, building the image back-to-front to create depth, clarity, and a luminous finish.

​

Mixed media works are developed from the original painting and enhanced through layered materials and finishes — preserving the integrity of the original while adding dimension and presence.
